On Saturday 8th October Excalibur inventories managing director Niven Chinasamy, undertook the enormous feat of completing a 10K survival race to raise money to help provide medical and general aid to those in Syria.
The charity ‘Hand in Hand for Syria’ is very dear to all of us and the work they do is nothing short of incredible. They not only deliver food and support and supply over 100 medical facilities across Syria and they have also opened six of their own hospitals to treat the injured and the sick. We are extremely happy with the money raised for them from our offices so far and we look forward to sending them more funds from our future fundraising ‘antics’ – although I believe Niven may decide to go down the cake sale route next time rather than do this again … probably safer for him!
The race itself was filled with over 35 natural and purpose-built obstacles as well as having four battle ground type situations; all designed to push body and mind to their absolute limits. Designed by Bear Grylls himself the challenges are as close as you will get to those that you would be faced with while making your way through the Amazonian jungle or facing the harsh waters in the world’s most dangerous oceans. When Niven first told us what he was planning to do we laughed… and even contemplated writing him a will! These survival races are brutal, savage and almost impossible to finish and we were so proud that Niven even attempted it! With grit, determination and sheer will power we are pleased to say that Niven and his friends not only attempted the challenge but also completed the race – and in under 2 hours too!!
Well done Niven and all of the Muddy Ducks! Thank you for putting yourself through this gruesome survival race and raising money for a very worthwhile charity!
